This module prepares security professionals to recognize, assess, document, and report unusual behaviors that may indicate potential violence or other workplace security risks. It covers personal, professional, and environmental stressors that may influence behavior, concerning actions and communication patterns, and observable clusters that can signal heightened risk. Participants will learn to identify subtle warning signs, evaluate behavior objectively and without profiling, and document suspicious activity using clear, professional language. The module emphasizes early recognition and appropriate reporting as key components of proactive threat prevention, workplace safety, and responsible security decision-making.

17B Understanding Human Behavior and Body Language

This module provides security professionals with a practical understanding of human behavior and nonverbal communication to strengthen observation and situational awareness. It covers body language, kinesics, posture and movement, and micro-expressions that may provide insight into a person’s emotional state, intentions, or behavior. Participants will learn to recognize and interpret nonverbal cues as part of the broader context of an interaction, helping them assess situations more effectively, identify potential concerns, and make better-informed decisions while performing their security duties.

17E Situational Awareness

This module develops essential situational awareness skills for security professionals, focusing on the continuous observation, assessment, and communication needed to identify potential threats before they escalate. It covers recognizing behavioral red flags, identifying suspicious or misplaced objects, evaluating environmental cues across different locations, and systematically assessing people, places, and surrounding conditions. Participants will strengthen their ability to detect developing risks, support early intervention, communicate critical observations effectively, and make faster, more informed decisions in high-pressure security environments.

17G Intro to Interdisciplinary Threat Assessment Teams

This module introduces security professionals to the structure, purpose, and functions of Interdisciplinary Threat Assessment Teams and their role in workplace violence prevention. It covers pathways to violence and pre-incident indicators, assembling a threat assessment team and defining its responsibilities, investigative resources, information sharing, and effective documentation and report writing. Participants will learn how communication, collaboration, role clarity, and diverse professional perspectives support the assessment of potential threats, early recognition of risk, coordinated decision-making, and appropriate organizational responses to concerning behavior.
