45A Search and Seizure in an educational environment
This module provides security professionals with an understanding of search and seizure principles as they apply within educational environments. Participants will examine consensual encounters and detentions, reasonable suspicion and probable cause, the respective roles of school officials and peace officers, and legal considerations surrounding searches. The training emphasizes how different legal thresholds affect student interactions and how observation, professional communication, and accurate documentation support appropriate security operations. By completing this module, participants will be better prepared to recognize lawful interactions, respond appropriately to suspicious behavior and student-related incidents, and perform their responsibilities in accordance with school policies, legal standards, and campus safety requirements.
